The Working Cat’s Work

Gandalf (spelled wrong earlier) is becoming quite the friendly cat. Whenever I enter the garage now, he comes up to me for a pet and meows and purrs. In this way, he is a fine cat.

However, I got him to kill rats and I’m starting to worry that he’s the right cat for the job. He’s spent three weeks in the garage so that he knows that we are home base and that our garage is where the food will be placed every morning. I believe he’s got this figured out. A few days ago, I decided it was time for him to venture forth. I figured he’d be delighted to look up at the big beautiful sky. I picked him up and we stepped out onto the back lawn. I set him down and what did he do? He gently pattered (in the gentle pattering way that cats do so well at) right back into the garage. I must keep trying.

My good friends the Segel/Kubinics have a cat named Happy Toes. You’d think with a name like that he’d be a lazy house cat. But last summer I heard young Charlie Kubinic saying to Spencer that Happy Toes was a menace because he was always leaving dead body parts all over their lawn. They considered this an actual problem.

I am going to have to find some way to set Gandalf to work. If I don’t succeed, I may need to catnap Happy Toes. I am pretty sure this would be socially unacceptable.
