Up on the roof

The state of the art goat shed isn’t quite ready for a full photo spread since there’s still lots to be done in terms of shingling, trim, yard clean up, etc. But, as you can see from this picture, it’s coming together nicely. The goats are now able to hop from the hay box, to the feed storage cupboard, to the chicken coop, and finally onto the roof to enjoy that feeling goats love best — being up high.

What you can’t tell from this picture is that they have a fabulous view of Lake Washington. They can even see Bill Gate’s house. Well, maybe not his house. They can really just see a giant swath of slightly sloping roof. Rumor is that this is because Bill Gate’s house is mostly sub-terranian. I often wonder about this rumor. Would anyone really build a $60 million dollar home that was mostly sub-terranian? Could the world’s richest man live in a luxury cave. Snowflake and Eloise would be miserable in a luxury cave. Although, that is one amazing giant swathe of roof that Gate’s has.

I think I’m going to hang a rectangular collection container on the edge of the roof somewhere. This way, I can just sweep the berries off the roof and into this container and whenever the container fills up, I can empty it into the compost. This is just one of the many special features that makes my new goat-shed-to-be, state-of-the-art.
