In late May, three young men from Omaha, Nebraska came to visit. They are crossing the country and visiting different urban farmers and making a road trip/Urban Farming Movie called Growing Cities. In talking with them, I was amazed at all the places they’ve been, the people they’ve met, and the projects they’ve learned about. They made me want to hit the road and see that big world outside Seattle, but as of yet, I am still home, tending the farm. If you are interested in urban farming, or road trips, you MUST check out their website: growingcitiesmovie.com. Also, I’ve included a preview of their movie below.

The interesting part of making the small part of Growing Cities that I get to be in, was meeting people from Omaha, Nebraska. These young men were very polite, hip, and interesting too. They even helped with the dishes before heading out to Seattle’s music festival, Folklife. After they left, my husband turned to me and said, “Maybe we need to visit Omaha.” Maybe we should.

Please pay special attention to the end of the movie clip in which Tom (of Tom and Didi) shows Andy, the man usually behind the camera, the goat milker’s hand shake. The goat milker’s hand shake used to be the secret handshake for the officers of the Goat Justice League, but it’s just too cool to be kept a secret.

P.S. Bob, the little goat who has just bitten Dan at the beginning of this clip, isn’t really a violent goat. He just gets a bit overzealous about nursing and got Dan’s finger confused with his Snowflake’s teat. You’ll be glad to know that Bob is now weaned, reformed, and penitent. Also, Dan still has the use of his hand and didn’t have to have his finger amputated.
